Cook Islands collector coin commemorates SS Republic
                    The paddle steamer SS Republic was transporting over 50,000 coins when it sank in 1865. In 2003, the wreck was discovered and the cargo recovered. Now, the Cook Islands has issued a commemorative coin bearing a small piece of salvaged coal from the ship.                
            The Royal Mint’s Benjamin Britten 50p strikes a musical note
                    The Royal Mint revealed the design for the 50p coin commissioned to mark the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten, one of the great British cultural figures of the 20th century, which falls on 22 November 2013.

                    As The Royal Mint launches its new Collector Albums, research from the organisation shows that many Britons lack fundamental awareness of their coins. Over 10 millions had no idea that Queen Elizabeth II appears on every current British circulating coin.

                    In 1984 Barry Clifford discovered the only documented pirate shipwreck off Cape Cod. The Whydah was once the flagship of ‘Black Sam’ Bellamy and may be still stowed with over 400,000 coins.

                    The Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden (The Netherlands) shows impressive objects of art in its forthcoming exhibition dedicated to the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca which is central to the Muslim faith, among which there are also historically significant coins.                
            Australia releases official coin as Royal Christening nears
                    In the lead-up to the Royal Christening of HRH Prince George of Cambridge the Royal Australian Mint has further extended its congratulations with a collectable coin celebrating the arrival of the third-in-line to the British throne.                
            Latvia commemorates composer Jazeps Vitols with silver collector coin
                    Marking Jazeps Vitols' 150th anniversary, the Central Bank of Latvia has issued a collector coin therewith celebrating a composer who sang praise to the light and the founder of the professional musical education in Latvia.                
            Royal Mint issues historical Ironside design remembering Britain’s Decimalisation
                    In 1971 the decimal currency system was introduced in Great Britain and at the same time came new coins. After nearly forty-five years, The Royal Mint has revived a Royal Arms design by Christopher Ironside which was not used at the epoch in favour of Britannia.
