The Mint Directors Conference (MDC) has created the new position of MDC Executive Officer. As the Mint Industry Newsletter November 2020 reports this was necessary because the position of MDC Secretary-General is currently vacant. The previous Secretary-General, Ross MacDiarmid, on 4 December 2020 stepped down as CEO of the Royal Australian Mint leaving this vacancy as head of the secretariat of the MDC.

Thus, according to the notice, the MDC Working Group suggested to create the new position of MDC Executive Officer for a period of 12 months with the option of doubling this time if necessary. The MDC members voted in a virtual election with a majority for this proposal choosing Ross MacDiarmid for this position. He will continue to run the business of the MDC and “prepare options and recommendations for the future of the secretariat of the MDC to be considered by the members in fall 2021” reporting to the President of MDC. The new position is expected to be funded by ten mints.
