The Royal Mint has unveiled plans to develop a visitor centre at its headquarters in south Wales. Construction will begin this spring, subject to planning permission, and is expected to be completed during 2015.

Over 40 Years of “The Shekel”, the Journal of Israel & Judaic History & Numismatics, are now available on the website of the American Israel Numismatic Association. All issues are digitized in high resolution as a pdf file so that they can be viewed as originally published.

An international colloquium entitled “New Research on Roman Republican Coinage” will be held at the University of Dresden from 19 to 21 June 2014. 15 speakers will be presenting their recent research relating to this broad thematic spectrum.

The 2014 Singapore International Coin Fair was an unprecedented success. The 3-day coin event (March 28-30) attracted thousands of visitors, with long lines forming before the doors opened. Hours were extended to allow the crowds of people to complete their business with over 100 different dealers and mints attending.

Over the last four years, NGC has graded more than 10 million coins, and in the process, became the first certification service to break the 20-, 25- and 30-million-coins-graded barriers.

In a global first, New Zealand Mint will release a series of gold and silver commemorative coins, featuring some of Disney’s most recognised and cherished characters. The coins will be struck by Perth Mint on behalf of New Zealand Mint.

On May 7, the Austrian Mint in Vienna issued the fifth silver coin in its series “Austria by its Children”. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, of course, instantly comes to mind when one thinks of Salzburg, and indeed such was the case for young artist Melisa Bejic, the student who co-designed the reverse of this coin.

Kolbe & Fanning’s 134th and 135th sales of important numismatic literature from the libraries of Philip W. Ralls and others were held on May 15-16. The sales featured significant works in virtually all areas of numismatic study.

On May 15-17, 2014, Stephen Album Rare Coins will present their 19th Auction at their offices in Santa Rosa, California. Among the 2,441 lots of particular interest will be a collection of 159 lots of Arab-Byzantine coins, one of the largest groups ever brought to auction.
