Call for Papers

The topic for 20th TEMAN will focus on: New challenges, Repositioning and Sustainability.

After experiencing the unprecedented period of borders closure and various lockdown/controls measures imposed to counter the prevalence of pandemic hitting almost all parts of business activities and economies worldwide, there are new challenges emerged for the monetary authorities, central banks, mints, banknote printers and related suppliers on the management of physical cash supply including circulation coins and circulating banknotes.

The aftermath of the 2-year plus lockdown has severely disrupted the supply chain including the production and distribution of physical currency. Adding on to the woe is the eruption of war, leading to shortages in raw material supply; inflation; disruption to normal economic activity and causing serious impact on the cost of raw material, production, handling and distribution of physical currency.

In the face of the new challenges, the monetary authorities, central banks and mints would need to address quite a number of imminent tasks, such as the stock holding policies to ensure uninterrupted supply of currency; or to reposition by introducing active currency recycling and recirculation programs to counter escalating cost of currency production; or to hasten the pace of various payment systems to alleviate the pressure of tight physical currency supply; or prioritizing stakeholder’s requirement for ESG compliance and the list goes on.

In addition to the technical aspects of minting industry, the 20th TEMAN will also seek to cover new scope of topics involving marketing challenges, policies, strategies and new business dynamics and opportunities, for example, mints will have to work with currency issuing authorities to embark on the issuance, production and marketing of commemorative minted coins/products as one of its key mandates. The market for bullion, numismatic and commemorative coins/minted products remains relatively untapped in most regional countries.

Delegates are welcome to share their diverse experience and present their findings in areas relating to circulation and numismatic/commemorative coins, banknotes and digital payment system covering:

  • Technical and Operational Excellence
  • Business Development and Marketing
  • Challenges and solutions in the new business environment
  • Any other relevant topics

Kindly submit your presentation paper summary by 31 August 2022.

Shortlisted presenters will be informed by end September 2022.
