Prestige Bullion, a joint venture between Rand Refinery and the South African Mint (SA Mint), continues to make history with the launch of new 24 carat gold and platinum one ounce bullion coins inspired by Africa’s legendary big five animals.

The launch of South Africa’s new legal tender bullion investment coins showcasing Africa’s majestic elephant, follows the SA Mint’s successful Big 5 collectable coin series, created as a celebration of Africa’s unique natural heritage, strength, and beauty.

The Big 5 bullion coin range will introduce a new animal every five years, beginning with the elephant, followed by the lion, the rhino, the leopard and lastly, the buffalo.

Richard Collocott, Managing Director of Prestige Bullion says the launch of the new series is, in fact, South Africa’s first gold bullion coin offering since the 22 carat Krugerrand which was first introduced way back in 1967. Prestige Bullion is a joint venture between the SA Mint and Rand Refinery and manages South African’s legal tender precious metal bullion coin portfolio. The gold used the Big 5 bullion coin, as with the Krugerrand, is sourced by Rand Refinery, applying the highest ethical and responsible gold standards. The Big 5 bullion coins are struck to world class standards at the SA Mint.

The coin is also available in one ounce of platinum.

“We are extremely excited to showcase the best Africa has to offer. In addition to the quality and craftsmanship, these pure gold and platinum coins also offer long-term value as a hedge against geopolitical, inflation and currency risk. The Big 5 bullion coin range offers an exciting new investment portfolio option for global investors and is a vehicle to preserve lasting wealth.”

Throughout history, gold has been seen as a valuable metal. Its unique and beautiful lustre, and investment value, makes it an important part of a diversified portfolio.

“We are pleased to add platinum to the mix, which is growing in popularity and demand. South Africa has the biggest platinum mines in the world. Our first platinum coin in this bullion investment coin series – showcasing the majestic elephant – is the first bullion coin series manufactured exclusively from South African platinum,” says Collocott.
