The commemorative coin “Unity is strength” is dedicated to the national unity of Ukrainians in the fight against the Russian aggressor and the international support that the whole world provides to Ukraine, bringing the joint victory closer. The desire for freedom is a defining value of Ukrainians. The struggle for the independence and integrity of the country has been going on for centuries.
After the treacherous attack of Russian troops on Ukraine on 24th February 2022, the main obstacle for the aggressor and the guarantee of the free development of the states and peoples of Europe became the confrontation taking place on Ukrainian soil. Understanding this, the entire civilized world has sided with Ukraine, providing humanitarian, economic, security and military aid.
The design of the coin was chosen by open vote. The designers are Alina Maluta, Serhiy Topkin and Svyatoslav Ivanenko. Yurii Lukianov was responsible for the Computer-aided design. The coin was minted in two metals and issued into circulation on 11th July 2022:
- A 5 Hryvnias coin made of nickel. 16.5 g / 35.0 mm / Mintage: 250,000.
- A 10 Hryvnias coin made of 0.925 silver. 31.1g / 38.6 mm / Mintage: 5,000.
On the obverse side of the coin, on a mirror background, there is the following: a small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine (in the center), around which is depicted a stylized symbolic composition of the unity of Ukrainians around the world – hands closed in a circle and wrapped with a blue-yellow ribbon (pad printing was used); inscriptions: UKRAINE (above in a semicircle); year of coin minting – 2022 (left); below, a semicircle indicates the denomination: 5 or 10 hryvnias. On the right of the 5 hryvnias coin is the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
