The design of the Coronation Medal by the Numismatic Society of Auckland.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=4]

Following the death of much beloved Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of her son Charles as King Charles III, the Numismatic Society of Auckland decided to produce a “Coronation Medal” to mark his coronation.

The obverse avoids any copywrite problems with using Charles’ head by using instead Westminster Abbey, where he will be crowned on 6th May 2023. The legend is straightforward – CHARLES III, KING OF NEW ZEALAND / CORONATION. With 6 MAY 2023 above the abbey.

The reverse has the Society’s crest and motto over portraits of Charles I and Charles II, with the dates of their coronations. The Society’s name is on a ribband at the bottom.

The medal will be 38mm in diameter and 3mm thick – providing a flan of 1 troy ounce for those ordering silver. There will also be copper ($30), copper rhodium plated ($40), sterling silver ($140). Gold will only be struck against pre-orders at an estimate of $3500 (9ct), and an estimate of $8500 (24ct). All prices are in NZ$.

Contact the Society at P O Box 818, Auckland 1140, New Zealand or email the N.S.A. Secretary to place an order.

In 2017 the Numismatic Society of Auckland and the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand celebrated 50 years of decimal currency.
