Strong prices were seen at Stephen Album Rare Coins’ Auction 20, which took place September 18-20 in Santa Rosa, CA, USA. The auction realized $1,369,943 on a pre-sale estimate of $949,000. The final sell-through rate for the auction was 80%.

Record prices were achieved by the sale of “The Richard L. Lissner Collection – The Collection of an American Connoisseur” on 1-2 August 2014. The total of prices realized was $5,779,885 (excluding the buyer’s fee), with 100% of the 2183 lots sold.

Morton & Eden, GB-London

The only Victoria Cross awarded for the British campaign in Tibet sold for a UK auction record £408,000* in a sale by specialist auctioneers Morton & Eden in London on Wednesday July 2, 2014. It will go on permanent public display soon.

Fritz Rudolf Künker, D-Osnabrück

Hammer prices amounting to more than 9.3 million, markedly more than 50 % above the estimate of 6.15 million, individual prices ranging between 20 euros and 170,000 euros: Künker proved that virtually every collector can find its piece in the Künker auction sales.

Many coin and medal aficionados showed up at auction sale #223 of Gorny & Mosch’s. On 26 June 2014 the Munich-based auctionhouse auctioned off a marvelous collection of cut gemstones. The toplot was a two-sided cameo sold for 26,000 euros.

Morton & Eden, GB-London

On June 10 and 11, 2014 London-based auction house Morton & Eden offered coins and medals in a general sale. The sale totalled £1,056,838 (including 20% BP) and 93% of the lots were sold by value. The top lot was a Naxos tetradrachm, sold for £74,400.

Numismatik Lanz, D-München

It is an icon of numismatics, the stater in the name of Phanes, enigmatic witness of the earliest coinage. Now it was auctioned at Lanz for 280,000 euros. Slightly less expensive was the famous EID MAR denarius of Brutus that obtained a price of 165,000 euros.

Heritage, USA-New York

The 687 NGC-certified Colonial and Early American coins that comprised the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part IV, achieved more than $11 million in Heritage Auctions sale on May 16 and 17, 2014.

Kolbe & Fanning, USA-Gahanna (OH)

Kolbe & Fanning’s 134th and 135th sales of important numismatic literature from the libraries of Philip W. Ralls and others were held on May 15-16. The sales featured significant works in virtually all areas of numismatic study.

On April 10, 2014 London-based auction house Morton & Eden offered high quality Islamic coins in their auction 69 totalling £527,640. Top lot was a Dirham of Tukharistan.
