16 price records were breached during the first offering of coins from the D. Brent Pogue Collection, sold in New York City on May 19 by Stack’s Bowers Galleries and Sotheby’s. Leading the way was the legendary D. Brent Pogue 1808 quarter eagle, sold for $2,350,000.

Nomos AG, CH-Zurich

On May 18, 2015 Nomos held their Auction 10 in Zurich which saw very strong prices. One of the surprises of the sale was a fine tetradrachm of Philip II: estimated at 3,000 CHF it soared up to 22,000 CHF with many bidders participating on this splendid coin.

Stephen Album Rare Coins, USA-Santa Rosa, California

Strong prices were seen at the Auction 22 of Stephen Album Rare Coins in Santa Rosa, CA. Total sales were $719,141 on a $603,000 estimate, for the 1744 lots, which included Ancient, Islamic, Chinese, Indian, and World Coins and Numismatic Literature.

Hermann Historica, D-Munich

A captivating array of phaleristic sensations, masterly craftsmanship, significant historical documents and military artefacts predominated in the 70th auction of Hermann Historica. Let’s just name a letter from the hands of Napoleon sold for 19.000 euros or an aeroplane type Messerschmitt Bf109 which was hammered down at 150.000 euros.

Wilkes & Curtis, GB- Tonbridge

Auction 5 of the UK based numismatic company Wilkes & Curtis took place on April 13, 2015. The auction which focused on Islamic and Indian coins realized £111,716 in sales. 258 of 212 lots offered were sold.

Gorny & Mosch, D-Munich

36,000 euros for an aureus of Philip I, 50,000 euros for an aureus of Hostilian, and 65,000 euros for a solidus of Glycerius; these prices evidence that Roman gold is again good for records. The other results of Gorny & Mosch sale 228 to 230 are nothing to sneeze at, either.

Fritz Rudolf Künker, D-Osnabrück

9.6 million euros was the total hammer price of Künker’s March sale, that was conducted on March 9-13, 2015. That result exceeded the estimate by about 50%. This was due to some extraordinary results. 180,000 euros for a Siculo-Punic tetradrachm is impressive, indeed.
