A family story behind an extraordinary cache starts as follows: Once there were two raindrops at a window and two friends avid for bets. Woolley & Wallis auctions off the betting debt from the year 1890.

A collection of 2,794 mint state Victorian Farthings, all dated 1890 generally all glorious mint state with full lustre, though some with spotting and minor imperfections were auctioned at Woolley & Wallis Salisbury Salerooms on 16th July.

The popular eLive sale of Künker will take place for the 19th time. And the bidding will start on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. The sale will contain exclusively ancient coins.

The most expensive item of the auction sale Ancient Art, conducted by Munich auction house Gorny & Mosch, was the slightly larger than life-size head of a bearded philosopher, sold for 129,800 euros. That, however, was by no means the only exciting result.

This year in June, just like every year, Gorny & Mosch offers choice objects of ancient art. The range covers the bust of the Roman emperor, Egyptian ushabtis and Greek jewellery as well as classicistic souvenirs of the educated upper class from their Grand Tour.

170,000 – 160,000 – 100,000 – that were the highest hammer prices of Künker’s summer auction sale. And all three lots came from Russia. It’s not that the other section had no big rarities to offer as well! The total 6,183 lots had been estimated at 5.8 million euros, the hammer prices added up to 9.6 million euros.
