Japan Mint releases last new coins of 2013
Japan Mint issued a new silver coin under the Japan 47 Prefectures Coin Program as well as two pure gold coins for next year’s zodiac sign, a horse. The silver coin features “Yakushima Island”, which belongs to the prefecture and is registered as UNESCO World Heritage.

Sami parliament asks for commemorative coin
To celebrate the 100-year jubilee of the first Sami national meeting it was proposed that the central bank issues a commemorative coin or banknote. Although a first request was declined, the matter has not been decided yet and continues to provide a lively political debate.
New Bank of England banknotes to be printed on polymer
The Bank of England has announced that the next £5 and £10 banknotes will be printed on polymer, a thin flexible plastic film, rather than on the cotton paper used for notes currently in issue.
Game of luck: exhibition in Neuchâtel
‘Money – Game – Stake’ this is the title and subject of the big annual display in the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Neuchâtel in Switzerland. The exhibition runs until August 31, 2014 and cooperates with various experts on that field.
