Naville Numismatics Live Auction 77

Naville Numismatics presents its Live Auction 77. The sale will close on Sunday 13th November 2022, 16.00 UK time, at which time the live session will begin. Absentee bidders can bid electronically through Naville Numismatics website from the day the sale is published online up to the start of the live session. The auction features a selection of 682 lots of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Modern coins, all chosen with contribution from NAC’s experts.

The sale includes a selection of coins from the collection of a Mentor. This first section of the sale starts with a beautiful drachm of Tarentum, an interesting nomos of Heraclea, a well preserved nomos of Metapontum, a rare litra of Zankle, a rare bronze of Lipara, a well preserved tetradrachm of Alexander III, a good tetradrachm of Lysimachus, a rare stater of Ambracia, a rare stater of Phaestus, a well preserved drachm of Sinope and even beyond a selection of Hellenistic coins and a series of coins of Tarentum, Metapontum, Heraclea, Sybaris, Croton, Syracuse, Macedonia, Athens, Corinth, Seleucid kings, Phoenicia, Judaea and Egypt.

Noteworthy in this section are a well preserved tetradrachm of Perge, a stater of Tarsus (Ex NAC sale 132, 2022, 366), a beautiful tetradrachm of Seleucus I with the types of Alexander III and very rare decadrachm of Arsinoe.

The Roman selection boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican bronzes and a striking array of denarii.

This includes a good denarius of Postumius Albinus Sp. f., an interesting denarius of C. Marcius Censorinus, a good denarius of Q. Antonius Balbus, a well preserved denarius of P. Satrienus, a good denarius of L. Rustius, an interesting denarius of C. Iulius Caesar and a scarce tetradrachm of Marcus Antonius and Octavia.

The Imperial selection of the sale features an attractive series of Augustus and also an attractive selection of Roman bronzes and silver coins such as a denarius of Otho, a well preserved denarius of Vespasian, a rare sestertius of Trajan (Ex NAC sale 23, 2022, 1544), a beautiful sestertius of Hadrian, a well preserved dupondius of Marcus Aurelius (Ex CNG sale 90, 2012, 1568), a rare denarius of Pertinax, a rare denarius of Pescennius Niger, a beautiful antoninianus of Pupienus, an iteresting selection of follis from the Rauceby Hoard, found in Lincolnshire, July 2017 (submitted for consideration as Treasure and returned to the finders. PAS ID: LIN-F6D516. BM Ref: 2017 T649), even beyond an interesting selection of Solidi, Argentei, Denari, Antoniniani, Sesterti, Dupondi, Asses and Folles.

Very remarkable in this part are a restored issue denarius of Trajan of the highest rarity, a very rare aureus of Diocletian and a very rare solidus of Theodosius I (Ex Künker sale 270, 2015, 8995)

The Roman Provincial part of the sale includes a selection from the Dattari Collection and an interesting selection of Egyptian coins from a British collection.
