Naville Numismatics Live Auction 73
Naville Numismatics presents its Live Auction 73. The auction will close on Sunday, 8th May 2022, 16.00 UK time, at which time the live session will begin. Absentee bidders can bid electronically through Naville Numismatics website from the day the sale is published online up to the start of the live session. The auction features a selection of 708 lots of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Modern coins, all chosen with contribution from NAC’s experts.
The sale includes a selection of coins from two important collections: the first one from the collection of a Mentor and the second from the M.N. collection.
This first section of the sale starts with a rare didrachm of Hyrium, a rare didrachm of Nola, an interesting series of Tarentum and Metapontum, a rare bronze of Tauromenium, an extremely rare bronze of Lipara, an attractive series of Syracuse, Abydos and Ilium, a very rare stater of Itanos, even beyond a selection of Hellenistic coins and a series of coins of Macedonia, Athens, Seleucid kings, Phoenicia, Judaea and Egypt. Noteworthy in this section are a beautiful stater of Soloi and a beautiful 80 drachmae of Cleopatra VII.
The Roman selection boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican bronzes and a striking array of denarii. This includes a well preserved denarius of Q. Marcius Libo, an interesting denarius of P. Crepusius, a well preserved denarius of L. Marcius Censorinus, a scarce denarius of M. Iunius Brutus (from an European collection and privately purchased from Ratto in 1972), a well preserved denarius of M. Iunius Brutus, a rare denarius of M. Antonius, C. Octavianus and M. Barbatius and a rare bronze of Octavianus.
The Imperial selection of the sale features an attractive series of Augustus and also an attractive selection of Roman bronzes and silver coins such as an aureus of Augustus with Caius and Lucius on reverse, a rare denarius of Germanicus, a beautiful dupondius of Nero with the Macellum on reverse, a rare sestertius of Trajan, a very rare sestertius of Hadrian, an attractive sestertius of Septimius Severus, an interesting electrotype of a AV medallion of Constantius Caesar and a very rare siliqua of Constans, even beyond an interesting selection of Solidi, Denari, Antoniniani, Sesterti, Dupondi, Asses and Folles. Very remarkable in this part are an extremely rare aureus of Hadrian from the Jameson collection, a beautiful solidus of Valentinian I, a very rare AE1 of Valentinian I and a very rare solidus of Julius Nepos.
The Roman Provincial part of the sale includes a selection from the Dattari Collection.
