Esteemed researcher and award-winning numismatic author Roger W. Burdette is this year’s recipient of The Clemy, the highest honor given by the Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG). “The Clemy is a coveted, annual award presented in recognition of writing skill, dedication to numismatics, sense of humor and dedication to the Numismatic Literary Guild,” explained former NLG Executive Director Ron Guth. The organization’s annual awards presentation was delivered on August 6, 2021.

Five Awards For NGC

The NLG has presented Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) with five awards for excellence in providing engaging and educational content to the coin collecting community. The awards include one for NGC’s social media presence, three for its monthly columns about US, world and ancient coins and one for best specialized book, highlighting NGC’s industry understanding and depth of expertise.

In recognition of NGC’s work on social media to inform and entertain coin hobbyists, NGC’s @ngccoins Instagram account was recognized as Best Numismatic Social Media Platform or Coin Collector Forum. Found at Instagram.com/ngccoins, the account has over 36,000 followers and has been honored by NLG for three years running. It is updated daily with high-quality images of fascinating coins, tokens and medals from around the world.

Three of NGC’s monthly columns were honored, including the NGC Ancients column, written for the NGC eNewsletter by David Vagi, NGC Ancients Director and Finalizer. The column was recognized for excellence in writing about ancient or medieval coins for the fourth year in a row.

NGC Research Director David W. Lange’s USA Coin Album column is also a multi-year winner, being recognized for the second year in a row in the category for US coins (Modern). New to the awards list this year was Jeff Garrett’s NGC Weekly Market Report article, which was honored in the category of Numismatic Investment or Marketplace columns.

All three of these columns are posted monthly or bi-monthly to NGCcoin.com and are also available through the free NGC monthly newsletter. To get them delivered to your inbox, visit NGCcoin.com/Connect.

Also recognized this year in the Best Specialized Books: Numismatic History or Personalities category was David Lange’s Coin Collecting Albums: A Complete History & Catalog Volume 3 Whitman Publishing Company Folders & Albums 1940-1978. The book relates the history of Whitman Publishing Company through an examination of their coin folders, albums and cards produced from 1940 through 1978, with complete histories and catalogs.

“I’m truly honored to be recognized by the NLG with such significant awards,” said Lange. “My fascination with coins began as soon as I learned to read, and it’s been a wonderful journey of discovery. I’m pleased to be able to give back to the hobby through my writing and research.”

“We are honored that the NLG has again recognized our efforts to promote and educate the hobby,” said Mark Salzberg, NGC Senior Grading Finalizer. “Sharing our expertise and engaging with collectors across the globe has long been a priority for NGC.”
