US Congress hears Royal Canadian Mint on $1 success

December 11, 2012 – For now, a possible shift from the American $1 bill to the $1 coin is hotly debated in the United States. During a hearing before US Congress members Beverley Lepine, the Royal Canadian Mint’s chief operating officer, explained how Canada changed smoothly from $1 and $2 bills to coins. The audience seemed impressed but discussion on the future of the American $1 bill will continue. Only recently the Government Accountability Office has shifted its expectations of saving $5.5 billion to $4.4 billion in case of adopting a $1 coin. Many fear that the majority of the Americans will never accept a $1 coin.
