April 30, 2015 – In 2015 Japan Mint issues various Mint Sets featuring proof coin sets and a special medal.
2015 Mint Set
The 2015 Mint Set is a standard coin set including six Brilliant Uncirculated coins of Japan as well as a special medal featuring this year’s Oriental zodiac, the Sheep.

The coin set includes:
- Six Japanese legal tender coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition (a 500 yen nickel-brass coin, a 100 yen cupronickel coin, a 50 yen cupronickel coin, a 10 yen bronze coin, a 5 yen brass coin and a 1 yen aluminum coin)
- A red brass medal featuring this year’s Oriental Zodiac, the Sheep (Diameter 27.0mm, Weight: 7.5g)
- A plastic display case
- A paper packaging
The Japan Mint features events concerning coins in Japan on a package of every year’s Mint
Set. This year, they have introduced a story about the 60th Anniversary of the 1 Yen Aluminum Coin.
The 1 yen aluminum coin that is currently in use was first issued in 1955, and the year 2015 marks its 60th anniversary. The design of this 1 yen aluminum coin was decided by a public call for designs in 1954, the year before it was issued, and the motif on the obverse depicts a young tree symbolizing Japan’s future growth.
2015 Japan Coin Set
This is an annual coin set made under the theme of Japanese scenery, cultural properties, and so on, to introduce Japanese coins internationally. This year again, the Japan Coin Set features “traditional Japanese patterns”. The obverse of the cover case depicts the moon, cats, mari (colorful embroidered balls), and arabesque design, while the reverse depicts mari and arabesque design.
The coin holder is decorated with various traditional motifs of cherry blossoms.

2015 Standard Proof Coin Set
The annual Proof Coin Set is housed in a plastic display case with leather. Each proof coin shines like a mirror on the hollow area of its surface while its embossed parts are frosted.

The proof coin set includes six Japanese legal tender coins in proof condition (a 500 yen nickel-brass proof coin, a 100 yen cupronickel proof coin, a 50 yen cupronickel proof coin, a 10 yen bronze proof coin, a 5 yen brass proof coin and a 1 yen aluminum proof coin) and a pure copper medal featuring the year 2015 and paulownia (Weight: 4.6g, Size: 22 mm x 18 mm). Commemorative 50,000 Kip Silver Proof Coin: “60th Anniversary of JAPAN-LAOS Diplomatic Relations”
This year, 2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Laos and Japan on March 5th, 1955. Taking this opportunity, various commemorative events concerning this anniversary are being held, to enrich bilateral interaction between Laos and Japan.

As one of such commemorative events, the Japan Mint has received an order from the Bank of the Lao P.D.R, and has produced a legal tender silver coin of Laos.
