Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion on Greek gold coin

October 4, 2018 – Greece issues a new 50 euro mini gold collector coin dedicated to the temple of Poseidon at Sounion.

Greece / 50 euros / .9999 gold / 1g / 14mm / Mintage: 1,500.

The coin will be released on 8 October 2018 and is part of the Cultural Heritage series. The temple shown on the coin is a landmark spot at Cape Sounion in Attica where King Aegeus according to mythology jumped to his death because he thought his son Theseus dead.

The temple was built around 444-440 BC and 15 of the once 34 columns stand still in their place.
