February 9, 2017 – On 3 January 2017 St. James’s Auctions announced their new venture with Baldwin’s Auctions, forming a new auction company called Baldwin’s of St. James’s. The new company’s first sale was The Argentum Auction held on Saturday, 4 February at The London Coin Fair in Bloomsbury. Their first major auction will be held on Tuesday 28 March 2017 at the Cavendish Hotel, the venue traditionally used by St James’s Auctions. The Baldwin’s annual Spring auctions held in early May will continue under the new company and will this year comprise a number of Islamic Coins, thus continuing the tradition of these renowned sales.
The merged ship will be run by Stephen Fenton, founder of the coin business Knightsbridge Coins and their auction division St James’s Auctions. With their first auction held in 2004, St James’s Auctions has gone from strength to strength with some phenomenal sales. With zero commission for vendors when an individual lot exceeded £1000, as well as the gift of a book to buyers who registered to bid, the auctions were popular with both vendors and bidders. St. James’s Auctions held seven auctions in 2016. This will now rise to ten, with the new auction house offering their clients an even better service. Stephen Fenton says ‘I firmly believe that this co-operation will work to the great advantage of customers of both firms, with the international connections of Baldwin’s and the vast numismatic experience of St. James’s. To our joint customers this means greater opportunities to offer their coins in a number of auctions in different market places.’
Baldwin’s of St James’s are pleased to announce that they have been chosen as the official auctioneers for Coinex, the internationally renowned London coin fair to be held on 22-23 September 2017.
Orders for a printed copy of the new firm’s catalogues can be placed via email or via phone +44 (0)207 930 7888 and the first catalogue will be free of charge. The company’s new website will be launched in the next couple of weeks. Until then any information on future auctions can be accessed via St James’s Auctions, and more information about Baldwin’s can be found on the firm’s homepage.
