February 21, 2013 – Kremnica Mint in close cooperation with the National bank of Slovakia has issued in January an official coin set of Slovak euro coins ‘Kosice – the European Capital of Culture 2013’.

Circulation Coin set 2013. Mintaeg: 7,000 (Special uncirculated), 3,500 (proof like in plastic box), 1,500 (prrof like in wooden box).

The prestigious title of the European City of Culture, later renamed as the European Capital of Culture, has been granted by the European Commission and the European Parliament since 1985.
It has gradually become one of the most favoured European Union projects owing to great interest and participation of European citizens and the positive social and economic impacts on the development of cities and regions.
In 2013, Kosice will share this title with Marseille-Provence. Nomination of these two cities was approved by the Council of the European Union on 12 September 2009.
