Sensational Celtic hoard found in Switzerland

[bsa_pro_ad_space id=4]

April 5, 2012 – Recently the, up to now, largest hoard of Celtic coins made of precious metal ever made in Switzerland was found in the loaction of Füllinsdorf nearby Basel. On an area of ca. 50 square metres 293 silver coins were scattered. Nearly all of them belong to the Kaletedou quinarus typus, so-called because of its inscription. Kaletedou is a Celtic name, probably that of a leader. Until now we know nothing of settlement in this area, but obviously the coins were a hoard repository were these precious coins were concealed.

The Museum.BL shows the new find in its lounge until September 23, 2012.
