Russia printing banknotes for Assad regime

December 11, 2012 – Since the EU sanctions Syria has not been delivered money any longer from Austria. Now an investigative website, ProPublica, has proved by flight records that Syria has got a new source of where it gets money from: Russia.
Over a ten-week period on eight round-trips between Damascus and Moscow 30 tons of banknotes have been transported each time. Between 120 and 240 tons of new money is helping the regime of Mr Assad to continue paying debts and wages.
It seems that Russia did not deliver exclusively a new Syrian currency but also money in other, ‘strong’ currencies.
