Here you can see an old friend: Anastasius, the ruler in Constantinople. In the 5th century, new rulers established themselves not only in Italy but also in other territories of the Empire. They often imitated the treasured coins from the Eastern Roman Empire. This gold coin imitates a solidus of Anastasius, but it was minted in Gaul under the Merovingian King Clovis I (AD 481-511).
