March 18, 2010 – The International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA) was founded in London in 1993. Within the first year, 30 of the world’s leading galleries for antiquities were members, among them some, who also are dealing in coins.
On March 13th, 2010 IADAA relaunched its Internet presence. The old website was redone. The new presents information on the organization and a very strong section featuring cultural property issues. This is information, which is also interesting for coin collectors. IADAA names among its aims the active protection of cultural property. In this respect, IADAA is involved in the cultural property debate.
IADAA has collected quotations of major scholars, who deal critically with the results of cultural property activism, in order to inspirit the partial discussion in the Internet. All quotations, which were originally not in English, are translated. They encourage reflection, and they should be required reading for every collector, every archaeologist and every politician, who wants to decide well-founded on cultural property issues.
All quotations can be found at http://www.iadaa.org/en/cultural-property-1
