Naville Numismatics’ Live Auction 69
Naville Numismatics presents its Live Auction 69. The auction will close on Sunday 14th November 2021, 16.00 UK time, at which time the live session will begin.
Absentee bidders can bid electronically through Naville Numismatics website from the day the sale is published online up to the start of the live session.
The auction features a selection of 626 lots of Greek, Roman, Byzantine coins, all chosen with contribution from NAC’s experts.The sale includes a selection of coins, including bronzes and fractions, from Magna Graecia, Sicily and Greece, some of them from the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection sold in association with Stacks Bowers Galleries.
This first section of the sale starts with a rare triens of Populonia, an attractive series of beautiful coins of Tarentum, Metapontum, Velia, Caulonia, Syracuse and Athens, even beyond a series of coins from the BCD duplicates, a selection of Hellenistic coins and a series of coins of Judea and Nabathea.
Noteworthy in this section are a rare and well preserved stater of Syracuse, a well struck stater of Alexander III (Ex Nac sale 100, 2017, 1079).
The Roman selection boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican bronzes and a striking array of denarii. This includes a well struck denarius of L. Furius Purpurio, a beautiful denarius of P. Crepusius, a well struck denarius of Q. Antonius Balbus, a rare denarius of L. Axsius L.f. Naso, a well preserved denarius of Q. Pomponius Musa, a really beautiful denarius of M. Iunius Brutus and a rare denarius of Sextus Pompeius (Ex Ratto fixed price list 3, 1970, 215).
The Imperial selection of the sale features an attractive series of Augustus and also an attractive selection of Roman bronzes and silver coins such as a sestertius of Tiberius, a sestertius of Claudius, a sestertius of Vespasian, a beautiful hemidrachm of Trajan (ex Nomos sale 8, 2013, 221), a rare sestertius of Trajan from the Trau collection, a rare sestertius of Hadrian with the Hispania on reverse, a solidus of Julian II and a solidus of Honorius, even beyond an interesting selection of Solidi, Denari, Antoniniani, Sesterti, Dupondi, Asses and Folles.
Very remarkable in this part are an aureus of Nero with Jupiter on reverse and an exceedingly rare and beautiful aureus of Domitian with the quadriga on reverse and the title of Germanicus.
The Medieval and Modern section includes a selection of interesting coins such as a Scudo del sole of Francesco I (Ex NAC sale 68, 2012, 512), and a rare solidus of the Lombards.
The Roman Provincial part of the sale includes a selection from the Dattari Collection.
