October 30, 2014 – This silver proof coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Shinkansen bullet train in 1964. It is the first time that Japan Mint uses both color printing and iridescent color shining technology for a single coin.
50th Anniversary of Shinkansen Silver Coin, Iridescent Color Shining Technology (obverse and reverse).
The coin depicts the first Shinkansen in Japan, 0 series, in the center, which was called “Dream Super Express” and was a symbol of the drastic development of Japan at that time.
In addition, with designs of Mt. Fuji and cherry blossoms, both of which are familiarly known as a symbol of Japan, this commemorative coin is expected to be one of the most popular coins ever in Japan.

It would also be noteworthy that the reverse side of the coin is treated with our own-developed special technology, iridescent color shining technology. The surface of the coin shines in rainbow color when viewed from different angles.
