November 14, 2013 – Every year Pobjoy Mint issues a new 50 Pence coin on behalf of the Isle of Man Treasury to celebrate the festive season and, in addition, a special 1/20oz Gold Angel coin which bears a special Privy Mark on its reverse reflecting a yuletide theme. This year is no exception with the new coin showing two very traditional Christmas images.

One of the first signs that Christmas is approaching is decorations starting to appear on houses and one of the more traditional decorations is the Christmas Wreath which is hung on front doors all over the world. This year’s coin features a Christmas Wreath complete with pine cones and poinsettia leaves. To complete the design on the coin, in the centre of the wreath, is a Christmas Stocking filled with the more customary items of candy canes, lollipops, a small present and a delightful Gingerbread man.

The coin is available in Cupro Nickel Diamond Finish and Proof Sterling Silver with both versions of the coin presented in a beautiful Christmas card which this year shows a roaring log fire below a decorated mantelpiece. The coin itself is presented in the centre of a Christmas Stocking which hangs in the cut out centre as though it is hanging from the mantelpiece ready for Santa on Christmas Eve. This Stocking can be easily detached from the card to keep and hang on your Christmas Tree in future years. They are also available as coloured coins, which really brings this coin to life! In addition, the festive coin is available in 22ct Gold and packaged in a presentation box to make the ideal Christmas gift.

Each coin is detailed to perfection and the precious metal versions are struck four times to attain the highest quality ‘proof’ finish. Approved by Buckingham Palace, the obverse of the coin bears a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Man, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.

The special 1/20oz Gold Angel coin bears a special Privy Mark on its reverse reflecting a yuletide theme. This special edition has a limited edition of 1,000 coins worldwide, making these coins especially collectable.

Since medieval times, Angel coins bearing the design of the Archangel Michael slaying the Dragon have been thought to bring good luck and health to the bearer and this modern Angel, which is one of the World’s foremost bullion coins, continues to uphold this remarkable tradition. The Angel depicted on the coin is only the third design in the coins illustrious history since the first Angel was issued in 1984.

Since 2004 the Privy Mark on these special Christmas Angels have taken us on a journey through the 12 Days of Christmas with the Privy Mark each year representing a different verse of the well-known Christmas carol. This year’s coin depicts ‘Ten Lords-a-Leaping’ as a Privy Mark on the coin. This collection will continue until the famous Christmas carol is complete.

This design for this legal tender, 24 carat proof gold coin has been approved by Buckingham Palace and bears a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS on the obverse.

Each coin is produced to the highest quality and has been struck four times to produce a stunning mirror-finish background with the design sculpted in striking relief.
