High Quality Collections at Peus

In our 427th floor auction from 4-6 November 2020 comes a wide range of coins from high quality collections on offer.

It starts with a series of Greek coins of particularly fine quality, such as an almost EF tetradrachm of Mende and an excellent didrachm from Larissa. Most of the coins from the Graeculus collection have an easily traceable provenance, some come from particularly sonorous collections, such as the archaic drachm from the island of Paros from the Niggeler collection, a Tetrobol of Abdera from the Lockett collection and a litra of Thermai/Himera from the Jameson collection. Part II of the Graeculus collection (starting from the Macedonian Empire) will be offered in auction 428.

This is followed by a high-quality collection of Roman denarii with numerous FDC examples from the 2nd century AD. This section is enriched by some 20 aurei and some rarities such as a very rare PATIENTIA-AVGVSTI denarius by Hadrian and the 2nd known copy of a Hadrian denarius of the type RIC 608 and a gold quinarius of Gordian III. The antiquities section is rounded off by the first part of a collection of Islamic coins of outstanding quality and an offer of 100 books on oriental numismatics, some of which are very rare.

Among the variety of coins from all over the world there is a series of Russian coins with some very rare small coins and a small collection of Dutch coins in gold and silver to mention. This time a very extensive offer of Habsburg coins follows the international coins. An old collection with numerous thalers and double thalers from the 16th to 19th centuries from different mints is being auctioned. The gold coins in this collection include a number of Hungarian gold guilders as well as a series of original 4 ducats from 1830 on.

Among the old German coins, first of all, a series of 18 Brunswick Lösers should be mentioned, namely a very rare 4-fold from 1647 on the yield of the Harz mines and a 5-fold 1666 on the 88th birthday of August the Younger of Braunschweig-Hitzacker. In the further auction, a number of rare thalers from Brandenburg-Prussia and a collection of Cologne, the city as well as the archbishopric, form further highlights. As usual, imperial Coins should be observed by all interested parties. Low-priced lots close a varied auction with highlights in all areas. Due to the unpredictable Covid-19 situation all bidders should be prepared to bid by internet or send pre-bids in time. We are confident that the upcoming auction, with which we can also celebrate our 150th company anniversary, will once again generate special attention at home and abroad.
