CNG’s Keystone Auction 3 – POSTPONED
The auction is postponed. Michael Gasvoda explained CNG’s decision.
Classical Numismatic Group presents the Nor’eastern Collection, a live auction featuring 247 lots of Roman and British coins, the near-intact holdings of an unnamed New England collector active in the 1950s and 1960s.
The mid-20th century was the heyday of brick & mortar coin shops in the United States, with a number of small-scale dealers mentioned in the collector’s notes, such as Frank Dupree of New Haven, “Dr. Bell,” “Silver Loan,” and others, at a time when quality ancient coins like these would be an exciting offering. The collector also frequented major international dealers as well, with firms such as Coin Galleries, Münzen und Medaillen, Seaby, and Baldwin’s all represented. Surprisingly, a handful of coins were also acquired from Yale University. The coins themselves were mostly stored in old-style individual coin trays, lending a deep cabinet tone to many of the silver lots.
To best provide our customers with the chance to acquire a specimen from this fascinating mid-20th century collection, CNG is offering the group in individual, unreserved lots opening at $5. The sale will be conducted live on 17th February 2021, beginning promptly at 10 AM ET. There will be no live video or audio feed for this sale.
