Heritage, USA-New York

Heritage’s New York January 6-7 event at The Waldorf-Astoria sees strong market in gold rarities, aided by $2+ million non-floor session; part of $72+ million numismatic auction week including U.S. Coins and Currency in Florida.

Sotheby’s, USA-New York

Sotheby’s annual December auctions in New York of Important Judaica and Israeli & International Art brought a combined total of $7,908,754. The sale also featured the Kagan-Maremba Israel Coins and Medal Collection, which brought $572,500.

Bonhams, USA-New York

Bonhams offered during their New York auction on December 13, 2012 several rarities including an exquisite collection of 45 lots English coinage struck between the 14th and 19th centuries and a newly discovered $5 Series 1882 ‘Brown Back’ National Banknote that sold for $101,790.

Numismatik Lanz, D-Munich

It was one of these auctions collectors love: In auction 155 of Numismatik Lanz items from old collections gathered with taste and dedication were sold. And no investors ballooned the prices to absurd spheres.

Numismatica Genevensis SA, CH-Geneva

Numismatica Genevensis turns Geneva into the centre of Islamic numismatics. The top lot was the arguably most splendid collection of Ummayyad dinars. But the ancient coins reached top prices too. The most expensive coin was a Russian rouble, though.

Morton&Eden, GB-London

On November 13 and 14, 2012 London-based auction house Morton & Eden hold two sales: The Huntington Collection of Portuguese and Portuguese Colonial Coins auction and a Coins, Banknotes and Historical Medals sale. Both showed strong results totaling for £573,504 and £586,530 respectively.

Künker, D-Osnabrück

Künker certainly capped off the 2012 auction year on a brilliant high note – realizing a total of 12.3 million EUR in hammer prices on October 30th and 31st. Edergold, Russian gold and the last part of the Hagander collection ensured, indeed, an endless row of highlights.

Numismatica Ars Classica NAC AG, CH-Zurich

Prestigious auction house Numismatica Ars Classica NAC AG held two of its most successful sales to date on October 17, 2012 with its auctions of ancient coins from the celebrated Hunt and Huntington collections.

Gorny & Mosch, D-Munich

Although the coins and medals from medieval and modern times did not fetch quite the same high prices as the ancient ones, the final prices were still of note and, some of them, sprang a surprise.

Gorny & Mosch, D-Munich

After this Gorny & Mosch auction it would seem that just about all coins and medals are currently very much in demand! The top piece turned out to be an aureus of Pompeius that sold for a very substantial 161,000 EUR.
