Heritage Auctions, USA-New York

Queen Anne 5 Guineas are not so rare, but they are extremely rare in mint state. That was the reason why a specimen on sale during Heritage’s NYINC auction was sold for $264,000. Two other pieces achieved the same sum.

An 1870-S Three Dollar Gold, SP50 sold for a record $5.52 million leads Heritage’s auction at FUN on January 5, 2023. The coin came from the Bass Collection whose proceeds will benefit Dallas-based nonprofits.

During Heritage’s HKINC auction the second-finest example of the Chinese “Pavilion” Dollar more than doubled a previous type record selling for $576,000.

Numismatica Genevensis SA

Seven of the ten most expensive Geneva coins on record were sold at a single auction sale – Numismatica Genevensis’ Auction 18. The offer constituted the most comprehensive ensemble of coins from Geneva that we know of. On a side note, it is also worth mentioning that the other NGSA auctions fetched a total of 17 results in the six-digit range, one even in the seven-digit range.

Stack’s Bowers sold in its Winter 2022 Showcase Auction over $23 million in US coins and currency. The focus was on Americana, U.S. colonial and federal coinage, and physical Bitcoins and Cryptocurrency featuring pieces from the Sydney F. Martin Collection.

A rare Greek gold stater from the Black Sea city of Pantikapaion drew frenzied bidding and reached $134,750 in the record breaking CNG Feature Auction 121.
