The Sydney New Year’s Eve celebrations are well-known all around the world for their stunning fireworks and fascinating Sydney Harbour Bridge Effect.

In celebration of this epic event the Royal Australian Mint, working in partnership with the City of Sydney, has released an innovative $1 holographic silver proof coin. The colour of the hologram will change to show the bursts of light appearing over the popular Australian landmark, Sydney Harbour Bridge, replicating the stunning fireworks.

Each year the theme will change as this coin is the first of a ten year series. In 2013 the theme was “Shine”, celebrating Sydney as a city where the sun, the water and the people shine. Famous Australian artist, Reg Mombassa, has developed the design for the celebrations, which will be featured on the packaging.
