August 15, 2013 – Maamoun Abdulkarim, General Directore of Antiquities and Museums at Syria’s Ministry of Culture has published an appeal. The civil war in Syria threatens the cultural and especially the archaeological heritage of the country. Although all involved parties were asked to keep away from archaeological sites many of these and many museums are suffering from the conflict. Objects are being stolen and taken abroad. The Antiquities and Museums asks therefore the international community, UNESCO and the neighbouring countries for an active support.
