March 3, 2011 – On March 24, 2011, Prof. Dr. Bernd Kluge will receive the Huntington Medal Award 2009 at the Bode-Museum, Goblinsaal. Dr. Ute Wartenberg Kagan will represent the American Numismatic Society, who has invented this prestigious award in 1908.
About the Award
The Huntington Medal Award is conferred annually in honor of the late Archer M. Huntington in recognition of outstanding career contributions to numismatic scholarship. The medal was designed in 1908 by Emil Fuchs to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ANS.
Prof. Dr. Bernd Kluge will be honored with the Huntington Medal Award.

2009 Recipient Prof. Bernd Kluge has made significant contributions to the field of numismatics. He is the director of the Münzkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and a leading specialist in the medieval period. Prof. Kluge has published an abundance of significant books and papers on monetary history. From 1993 to 1999 he was chairman of the Numismatic Commission of the countries in the Federal Republic of Germany. He is also the Honorary Professor of Numismatics of the Middle Ages at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
The citation will be read by Dr. Ute Wartenberg Kagan, Executive Director of the American Numismatic Society. Prof. Kluge will present a lecture entitled “Münzen, Männer, Moritaten. Numismatische Einladung in das Mittelalter”.
