November 24, 2011 – The Austrian Mint has published its Issuing Program for 2012. The first coin will be released in 2011. In 2012 the popular series “Rome on the Danube” will be continued. But many other new issues will attract collectors too.
On occasion of 200 years of the “Society of Music Lovers in Vienna” the Austrian Mint will issue the first coin of 2012 on December 14, 2012 as “New Year’s Coin 2012”. The coin will be struck in two versions, one in copper and the other in silver. The 300,000 copper versions will be uncirculated coins that are only available through the Austrian banking system. The 50,000 special uncirculated versions will be available from the Austrian mint and specialized coin dealers. Each of these coins is vacuumed sealed in a colorful and informative blister pack, with a gold-colored sleeve and bilingual text in English and German.
The Austrian Mint will issue for the first time in 2012 an adorable Baby set containing all the circulating coins dated 2012 in uncirculated finish. The set is distributed in German language only. Along with the set, a teddy bear will also be available for purchase made by the famous and very collectible Teddy Bear maker Steiff.
Also on January 2, 2012 the 2012 official annual coin set from Austria in special uncirculated finish will be issued. This annual set contains uncirculated version of the 8 circulating euro coins produced by the Austrian Mint.
On January 25, 2012 a 50 euro gold coin dedicated to Adele Bloch-Bauer will be issued as part of the series “Klimt and his women” (986 gold, 30,000).
The special 25 Euro coin in silver and niobium is dedicated this year to the topic of bionics and is going to be released on February 22, 2012 (900 silver and niobium, special uncirculated, 65,000).
On March 14, 2012 a 20 Euro silver coin dedicated to Egon Schiele of the “European Artists” series will be struck (900 silver, proof, 50,000).
On April 1, 2012 the series “Rome on the Danube” will be continued with the 20 Euro silver coin Lauriacum (900 silver, proof, 50,000).
The series “Federal Provinces” dedicates a coin to Styria. On April 25, 2012 the new 10 Euro coin will be issued in three qualities: uncirculated (copper, mintage limit: 100,000), special uncirculated (925 silver, mintage limit: 40,000) and proof (925 silver, mintage limit: 30,000).
With Brigantium another 20 Euro silver coin of the “Rome on the Danube” series will be released on June 13, 2012 (900 silver proof, 50,000).
The series “Federal Provinces” issues also a second coin. From September 26, 2012 the 10 Euro coin Carinthia will be available with the same specifications as Styria: uncirculated (copper, mintage limit: 100,000), special uncirculated (925 silver, mintage limit: 40,000) and proof (925 silver, mintage limit: 30,000).
On October 24 the Austrian Mint will release the Austrian Proof Set 2012. The coins from 1 cent to 2 Euro commemorate 10 years of Euro banknotes and coins (proof, 10,000 each).
Also on 24 October 2012 in occasion of the Alpine Ski World Championships 2013 a coin is dedicated to Schladming, where the event will take place. The 5 Euro coin will be available as uncirculated coin (copper, limited to 300,000 pieces) and as special uncirculated coin (800 silver, limited to 50,000 pieces).
On November 14 the 100 Euro gold coin dedicated to the Crown of the Austrian Empire as part of the series “Crowns of the House of Habsburg” will be the last coin of the issue programme (986 gold, proof, 30,000).
