How a UK Court Punishes a Dishonest Detectorist
Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in Essex has severely punished a detectorist. The man had found a hoard of gold coins. However, during his treasure hunt, he violated pretty much all existing rules and legal requirements. The unusual sentence seems to be somewhat archaic.
Record Level of Treasure Finds in the UK
The British Museum revealed that the number of Treasure finds in the UK made by members of the public has once again hit a record level. In 2019, a total of 81,602 finds were recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme, almost 90 % of them were found by metal detectorists!
