A rich selection of numismatic literature at Solidus

The third Literature Auction 34 of Solidus features 1012 lots on the auction platform AUEX. The offered books’ year of publication ranges from 1533 till 2017; the books are written in German, English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Russian, French, Greek and Latin.
The print products at auction comprise a huge variety of rare bibliophilic volumes, standard works concerning Numismatics in general, monographs on ancient, medieval and modern coins, numismatic magazines and finally a lot of highly interesting auction catalogues from the 19th, 20th and 21st century.

Lot 11: Froehner (1878): Les Médaillons de l’Empire Romain.

Bibliophilic Volumes

The auctions starts with old, bibliophilic volumes. Special mention deserves:
W. Froehner: Les Médaillons de l’Empire Romain depuis le regne d’Auguste jusqua Priscus Attale. Printed in1878; this book is in an excellent state of preservation. Noteworthy are furthermore:
J.G. Baumgarten (1812): Historisch-genealogisch-chronologisch-kritisches Verzeichnis aller bekannten ducatenförmigen Goldmünzen der albertinischen Hauptlinie des uralten sächsischen Hauses; L.W. Hoffmann (1715): Alter und neuer Münz-Schlüssel; J.H. Lochner (1737-1744): Samlung merkwürdiger Medaillen and J.H. Schnobel (1790): Lübeckisches Münz- und Medaillenkabinet.

Lot 258: Voetter,O (1903): Slg. Bachofen von Echt.

Ancient Numismatics

This time many books on ancient coins are available including sought-after titles, e.g. O. Voetter: Slg. Bachofen von Echt. Römische Münzen und Medaillen. A reprint of A catalogue of Greek coins in the British Museum (partially still in the original wrapping) is on sale; moreover a series of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum Deutschland (Ed. Staatliche Münzsammlung München). The monographs of H.A Cahns on Knidos and Naxos are mentionable in addition; moreover: M.H Crawford: Roman Republican Coinage as well as J.M.F May: Ainos. Its History and Coinage 474-341 B.C.

Medieval and Modern Numismatics

Among the numismatic literature dealing with the Middle Ages and the Modern Era many standard titles can be found as original prints. Regarding German coins e.g.: K. Friederich: Die Münzen und Medaillen des Hauses Stolberg und die Geschichte seines Münzwesens; the monographs of A. Kellers about emergency currency; Regarding European and World coins e.g.: Cermak/ Skrbek: Mince Království Ceského or E. Fiala: Beschreibung böhmischer Münzen und Medaillen (with a dedication of the author).

Lot 382: Habich (1929-1934): Die deutschen Schaumünzen.

Collectors of medals have the exceptional opportunity to acquire the monumental opus of G. Habich (1929-1934): Die deutschen Schaumünzen des XVI. Jahrhunderts. These volumes are very rarely on sale as a complete set!
Another desirable collector’s item is the gorgeous half leather volume in excellent condition of H. Hoffmann: Les monnaies royales de France depuis Hugues Capet jusqu’à Louis XVI, Paris 1878.

Magazines

Among the magazines older and more recent series can be found. E.g.: Jahrbuch für Numismatik und Geldgeschichte and Mitteilungen des Clubs der Münz- und Medaillenfreunde in Wien as well as different volumes of the Zeitschrift für Numismatik.

Lot 984: Auction catalogue collection Farouk.

Auction catalogues

Many auction catalogues containing important collections are included. For example the famous collection of the Egyptian king Farouk, furthermore the collections Stecki (Poland), Sambon (Medals), Höfken (German Middle Ages), Löbbecke (Bracteates), Erbstein (complete, i.a. European coins and medals), Scheyer (Roman coins). Finally a big series of catalogues of the numismatic department from the Bank Leu AG can be purchased.
