Auctions 17 and 18 of Sincona AG comprise 3571 lots with a total estimate of CHF 2.45m. The event will take place in the Hotel Savoy – Baur en Ville. Poststrasse 12, Zurich from May 21 to 23, 2014.

339: Byzantine Empire. Alexander. Solidus, 912/913, Constantinople. DOC 2. S. 1737. Very fine. Estimated: 25,000 CHF.

Byzantine coinage is contained in a large series of solidi and tremissis (326-329, 334. 335, 338-340, 352-354, 367). At the end is a special collection of ancient seals (399-522).

Auction 18 begins with Afghanistan and continues with several smaller sections. A large block is Brazil with 68 lots. Bulgaria is represented with several banknotes, China is offered in a mixture of minors and dollars from the Empire to the Republic. The German section contains 921 numbers of various states as well as the Empire and the Weimar Republic.

1399: Germany. Principality of Fürstenberg, Joseph Wenzel. 4 Konventionstaler, 1767, Stuttgart. Dav. 2269. Nearly FDC. Estimated: 40,000 CHF.

Of special note are the title piece, a quadruple mining taler of Fürstenberg (1399), in addition a quadruple taler of Saxony (1509), as well as triple and double talers (1328, 1344, 1499, 1526, 1565). These are partially complemented by minor denominations – see Silesia. Also interesting are several important gold coins (1222, 1223, 1414, 1415, 1421, 1422, 1439, 1452, 1458, 1460, 1621). The German Empire and Weimar Republic section contain comprehensive series in gold and silver.

1935: German Empire. Duchy Saxe Coburg and Gotha, Ernst II. 20 Mark, 1872, Dresden. J. 270. Very fine-Very fine+. Estimated: 65,000 CHF.

Among the gold coins is a noteworthy Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha 20 mark 1872 (1935) and other important coinage (1654, 1697, 1697, 1719, 1768-70, 1774, 1776, 1777, 1779, 1866, 1870, 1871, 1936, 1941-1944, 1970, 1973, 1980, 2002). At the end are series of colonial coins and emergency coinage.
France contains 226 lots with many gold coins of small mintages. Greece, Great Britain and other countries follow to Italy with 408 positions. This comprises a collection of medals of the House of Savoy (2493-2739), mainly in bronze, that are seldom offered in this quantity. Coins of the Italian Kingdom and individual states of special interest are (2464, 2465, 2467, 2471-73, 2475-81, 2762, 2836). A small group of Venetian osellas end this section. Poland contains an interesting silver medal (3005) hitherto unknown in this weight. Portugal follows with 53 items and the Holy Roman Empire / Austria with 98 positions.

3679: Switzerland. Zurich. 10 ducats n. y. after 1678. Schweizer Medaillen 384 & 386. Apparently unknown as 10 ducat. Extremely fine. Estimated: 25,000 CHF.

Switzerland is a relatively large section – 628 lots – that contains cantonal coins (3257-37209), Helvetian Republic, Swiss Confederation (3721-3830) and shooting medals (3831-3880). Towards the end of the sale come Spain, Tschech Republic, Turkey and Hungary. Transylvania has several interesting talers. USA, Vatican and Cyprus end the auction.
