Ancient quality coins at reasonable prices
Naville Numismatics announces the Live Auction 11, which will start closing on Sunday 30th November 2014, at 18.00 UK time, when the Live session will begin.
The auction features a selection of 349 lots of Greek, Roman and Italian coins, selected with the contribution of NAC’s experts.
Campania, Caleno Didrachm Circa 265-240, 23mm., 7.12g. SNG France 427 (these dies). Historia Numorum Italy 434. Nice old cabinet tone and Very Fine. Starting bid: £170.
The sale begins with a series of coins from Magna Graecia and Sicily, including a Caleno didrachm, a small selection of coins from Tarentum, a rare bronze of Enna and a rare hexas of Naxos.
Cyrenaica, Cyrene Drachm Circa 520-480, 14mm., 4.05g. BMC 18 and pl. IV, 5. Jameson 1348. Very rare. Nice old cabinet tone. Well centred and in excellent condition for the issue. Good Very Fine. Starting bid: £500.
For continental Greece it is worth noting a small selection of hecte from Mytilene and Phocaea, a tetradrachm of Lysimachos, a tetradrachm of Myrina and a very rare drachm of Cyrene.
M. Aurelius Cotta 140 BC. Denarius circa 140 BC., 18mm., 3.98g. Crawford 229/1. Very fine. Starting bid: £150.
The Roman part of the sale boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican denarii and a selection of bronzes from the I. Vecchi Sale 3, 1996. The Imperial part of the auction includes a very interesting denarius of Augustus, with a lovely old cabinet tone, and a small selection of aurei, including Augustus, Galba and Vespasian. For the late Roman period the auction includes a selection of solidi and it is worth noting a rare Jovinus silique.
Jovinus, 411-413 Siliqua Trier circa 411-413, 15.5mm., 1.11g. C 4. RIC 1711. King, Mélanges Bastien, 15. Very rare. Old cabinet tone, flan crack and Very Fine. Starting bid: £300.
The sale includes also a small selection of Medieval European coins, including a group of interesting France and Genoa specimen.
