Ancient quality coins at reasonable prices

Naville Numismatics announces the Live Auction 14, which will start closing on Sunday 12th April 2015, at 18.00 UK time, when the Live session will begin. The auction features a selection of 537 lots of Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins, selected with the contribution of NAC’s experts.

Lot 23: Sicily, Catana, Tetradrachm 450-440, AR. Rizzo pl. 10, 5 (this dies). About VF. Starting bid: GBP 600.

The sale begins with a series of coins from Magna Graecia and Sicily, including an interesting tetradrachm of Catana, a selection of Sicilian fractions including Naxos, Panrmus, Thermai and an extremely rare Hemilitra of Alontium. For continental Greece it is worth noting a  Samos Tetradrachm, ex NAC sale 78, 2014, 1499, a stater of Teos and a rare Tetradrachm of Cos ex NAC sale 78, 2014, 1508. This part of the sale includes nice specimens of Demetrius Poliorcetes, Lysimachus, Athens, Myrina and Tyre.

Lot 335: Marcus Arrius Secundus. Denarius 41, AR. Crawford 511/2b. Nearly VF. Starting bid: GBP 1,250.

The Roman part of the sale boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican denarii and a selection of bonzes from the I. Vecchi Sale 3, 1996 and from the NAC sale 78, the highlights of this part are: a rare denarius of the “Bellum Sociale”, a nice specimen of Julius Caesar, a notable specimen of M. Arrius Secundus ex NAC sale 72, 2013, 1367 …

Lot 336: Marcus Antonius and Octavia. Cistophorus Ephesus circa 39 (?), AR. BMC 136. RPC 2202. About EF. Starting bid: GBP 850.

… and a lovely cistophorus of M. Antonius and Octavia, ex NAC sale 78, 2014, 2039. For the bronzes we would like to mention an extremely rare bronze of M. Antonius with L. Calpurnius Bibulus. The Imperial part of the sale includes two interesting aureii of Galba and Trajan; nice sestertii of Trajan, Paulina ex NAC sale 78, 2014, 2365, Balbinus, Pupienus and Gordian III ex NAC sale B, 1992, 2108.

Lot 359: Galba, Aureus July 68-January 69, AV. C 286. RIC 164. About VF. Starting bid: GBP 1,500.

The highlight of this part of the sale is a rare aureus of Galba, a rare solidus of Constantius II and an extremey rare Valentinian II 1,5 scripula.

Winning bids are subject to a 15% buyer’s fee.
For some coins, winning bids are subject to an additional 5% fee on hammer price, as a reimbursement for import duty paid to HMRC.
US import restriction on coins of Italian and Greek type: None of the coins offered in this sale are subject to any kind of US import restrictions, since we are in possession of the necessary documentation for the importation into the United States.
