First proof issue of 1936 Walking Liberty Half Dollar at Heritage’s

A high-grade 1936 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Proof is expected to lead Heritage Auctions’ Sunday Internet Coin Auction, March 5.

The 1936 strike was the first proof issue of the Walking Liberty half and by far the scarcest. Just 3,901 were struck, making it one of the rarest proofs in the mint’s modern history. 

1936 50C PR66 PCGS. CAC. PCGS Population: (301/41). NGC Census: (305/82). Mintage 3,901. Reserve: 3,200 USD.

The example on offer is graded PR66 by PCGS with CAC Certification, putting it within the top 20 percent of graded coins. It exhibits sharp details and an attractive, reserved luster.

Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty design is considered one of the world’s most beautiful coins and has inspired coin design for a century. The coin has a reserve of $3,200.
