Part II of the Joel R. Anderson Collection of US Paper Money was offered by Stack’s Bowers Galleries. The 70 unique, extremely rare and finest known pieces and type notes in incredible condition realized $9,652,860, with two notes bringing over $1 million each.

Three coins highlighted Heritage’s ANA Auctions: A newly discovered 1854-S $5 Gold Coin sold for $2.1m, a 1792 Gold Piece supposed to have belonged to George Washington realized $1.74m, and Spain’s Legendary ‘First Dollar of the Americas’ realized $528,000.

Over $21.1 Million in US coins were sold and records set at Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ auction from August 14-22, 2018. The finest known 1913 Liberty Head nickel brought $4,560,000.

The Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio August Hong Kong Auction realized $4.08 million. With $360,000 far and away the highest price. This hammer price belongs to a Chinese gold coin from 1992.

Cayón Subastas hold a sale in Madrid on July 3, 2018. About 1,000 lots were distributed in four parts. Almost 250 lots were made up by a very important collection of Iberian denarii. Top lot was an extremely rare Gerona 1809 Spanish silver crown which realised 32,400 euros.

Led by strong bidding across the board, especially for Chinese coins and currency, Heritage Auctions’ World Coins & Ancient Coins Auction (28-29 June 2018) and its World Currency Auction (27-29 June 2018) in Hong Kong combined to bring $4.38 million.

The pre-sale estimate of the four summer auctions rose from 5.7 million euros to a total price realized at 8.3 million euros. The splendid specialized collections in particular allured more than 2,000 national and international bidders, 300 of which were present at the auction.

Stephen Album Rare Coins’ Auction 31 in May 2018 did not have ‘big ticket items’ as the auction house stated. But nevertheless bidding was strong because collectors could find numerous interesting pieces for their collections, especially from South-East Asia.
