In 2013, the project “Money and the Church in Northern Europe 1000-1200: Practice, Morality and Thought” was initiated. Its coordinators are Svein Gullbekk, Oslo, und Giles Gasper, Durham. From November 23 to 25, 2011, they hosted a conference whose proceedings have now been released. Ursula Kampmann has taken a look at it.

The Künker Summer Auction Sale was full of numismatic highlights: the hammer price for the only pattern of the very first (West-)German commemorative coin was 28,000 euros, a Hamburg bankportugalöser was sold for 36,000 euros, a Nuremberg 6 ducat piece for 80,000 euros, and a 1692 10 ducat piece of the Holy Roman Empire for 130,000 euros.

The Numismatic Side of Copenhagen: 2. The Museums
In terms of numismatics, Copenhagen has much more to offer than ‘just’ the Coin Cabinet. Several coin collections are on permanent display, as in the Thorvaldsen Museum and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. Not to forget the hoard finds in the National Museum of Denmark!

Coin Cabinet Dresden re-opens
On 6 June 2015 the Coin Cabinet of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden was re-opened in the Dresden Residenzschloss. After decades Germany’s third largest coin collecting boasting some 300,000 objects has eventually returned to its place of origin.
