Carlberg, Dan

Numismatic writer and auctioneer

Dan Carlberg (*1972) studied Swedish language and history at the University of Lund. Since the 1990s, he has been active in various numismatic associations in Sweden. He has been especially committed to the work of the Swedish Numismatic Society (“Svenska Numismatiska Föreningen”) and served as member of the board from 2000 to 2011. He was the society’s vice-chairman from 2005 until 2007.

In 2009, the Swedish Numismatic Society officially founded the Myntauktioner i Sverige auction house, which had been successfully holding auction sales for decades and now legally belonged to the society. Dan Carlberg became CEO of the auction house. In the following years, it developed into Scandinavia’s largest numismatic auction house. In 2022, the society decided to sell it to Dan Carlberg and the rest of the company’s board, who have continued to operate it since then.

Dan Carlberg’s numismatic interest is focused on Swedish tokens (until around 1800) and Swedish numismatics in general. Together with two colleagues, he published a completely modernised version of the standard reference work on Swedish numismatics in 2022: “Sveriges mynt 1521-2021” (Coins of Sweden 1521-2021).

Carlberg regularly publishes articles in specialist magazines, mainly in the Swedish Numismatic Journal (“Svensk Numismatisk Tidskrift”), and gives lectures on various numismatic topics.
