July 6, 2017 – In April 2017, it became publicly known that at least 1,400 numismatic objects were stolen from the Stockholm Royal Coin Cabinet, with an estimated value of the equivalent of €2.6 million. The perpetrator, who has already confessed, had sold the majority of objects in 1997. Thus, many have probably entered the coin market over the last 20 years.
According to Inspector Jan-Ake Törnhage, the relevant objects are “coins from Sweden and world coins, including a lot of Russian and American strikings. To date, almost 1,400 coins are missing.”
The Palmstruch Banknote. – Anybody who bought a specimen in the last 20 years should check carefully if it’s the one that was stolen from the Stockholm Coin Cabinet.
We also know that various banknotes were taken, too. Among these the so-called Palmstruch Banknote, Europe’s first banknote ever.
USA. 20 dollars 1931 D. St. Gaudens.
As early as June 30, 2017, word got around that an extremely 20 dollar coin 1931 D, St. Gaudens is missing as well.
