July 14, 2011 – We reported about ANA coins stolen from the Museum of Transportation June 12. Now the coins have been returned anonymously.

The “St. Louis Today” informs about a positive development in that case. Authorities said that six Civil War-era coins stolen from the Museum of Transportation last month have been returned anonymously. Officials were not disclosing details but said no one had been arrested. A museum spokeswoman declined to comment.
A silver dollar and five gold coins dating between 1849 and 1862 and believed to be worth nearly USD 19,000, were discovered stolen June 12. They were on loan from the American Numismatic Association Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo., and had been part of the traveling exhibit, “Money of the U.S. Civil War.” Investigators said there was no evidence of a break-in. Police were making arrangements to send the coins back to Colorado.
