January 24, 2013 – According to media reports archaeologists discovered 66 Sassanid gold coins in the city of Aziziyah in the south-west of Baghdad. Apparently the coins have not yet been dated more precisely than Sassanid, hence between 225 BCE to 640 CE.
Officials presented the coins on January 6, 2013 and expressed their hope the coins might be displayed in Baghdad’s National Museum soon. But first the items were expected to be sent for laboratory tests in order to confirm their authenticity.
