Sellers of 9/11 bogus coins to pay $750,000

February 12, 2013 – After, in 2010, US Congress authorised the US Mint to produce a commemorative medal on occasion of the tenth anniversary of 9/11 a company sold on its own initiative coins on that subject calling them ‘exclusively authorized’. Actually, this company was never authorised by Congress and, additionally, has operated in various disputable ways. It did not help that the National Collector’s Mint claimed to have minted this coin – indeed they feature the inscription ONE DOLLAR – as legal tender in Liberia not pretending to be legal tender in the USA.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has now reached a $750,000 settlement with the company. According to FTC the company charged consumers also products they never ordered and rendered returning extremely difficult.
