October 8, 2013 – The Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) was honoured to take out the Exporting Government Solutions category at the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Chief Minister’s Export Awards presentation.
The Mint was awarded in recognition of its international achievements in delivering coin reform programs to help Pacific Island countries to increase the effectiveness of their coinage systems. The Mint was also recognised for its establishment of strong relationships internationally to provide commemorative coin projects and custom minting contracts with global mints and coin dealers.
The Royal Australian Mint has achieved $12.9 million in export revenue in 2012-13, following from $14.9 million in 2011-13, making it the ACT’s largest exporter.

“It is fantastic that the Mint’s export achievements have been recognised in an official manner at the ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards,” said Royal Australian Mint CEO Ross MacDiarmid.
“Our current export success is a result of a lot of hard work from Mint staff, having only established the strategic groundwork for this achievement from January 2011,” said Mr MacDiarmid.
“It is their tirelessness which has led to the Royal Australian Mint becoming a leader on the minting world stage, a factor that has opened many doors for the Mint internationally.”
The Mint was the first mint in the world to achieve accreditation to an ISO 9002 quality standard, and has chaired the Mint Directors’ Technical Committee for the past 12 years.
“As a world-class, government-owned national mint in the Asia-Pacific region, the Royal Australian Mint is well placed to tap into lucrative international markets,” said Royal Australian Mint International Business Development Director Dr Prabir De.
“Feedback from the Mint Directors’ Conference held in 2010 particularly indicated that Australia’s neighbouring Pacific Island nations urgently needed to reform their coinage systems but did not know where to start,” said Dr De.
“With the extended capabilities and established world class minting infrastructure and skills the Royal Australian Mint took the opportunity to provide these countries a helping hand, and have now completed coinage reforms for Samoa and the Solomon Islands. We are also working with a number of other Pacific Island countries to provide coinage solutions that will meet their needs.”
