June 7, 2018 – Between 2011 and 2017 CIT Coin Invest AG issued the extremely popular “Exotic Butterflies” series. Seven different nations from three different continents presented one of their native butterfly species on a coin. What they all had in common was the minting technique: Set on a partly coloured one-ounce silver coin was an astonishingly real-looking butterfly hovering above its preferred flower.

Numerous collectors expressed their disappointment over the discontinuation of the popular series after seven issues. They can now look forward to yet another issue, bringing together, so to speak, all previously issued coins: The Exotic Butterflies Dream Edition.
While the “common” Butterflies were issued at 2500 pieces each, the “Dream Edition” is limited to only 555 pieces.

This “Dream Edition” is not only a collector’s dream; its design also incorporates the themes dreaming and butterflies. The obverse shows a young girl on the verge of adulthood, lost in reverie with eyes closed. Butterflies have settled in her hair, perhaps as if each of them was a happy thought.

The last coin issued in the “Exotic Butterflies” series was the Aporia crataegi, as this article explains.
