‘Better to be safe than sorry’

November 1, 2012 – He says that having never been stolen after nearly 35 years of business at a certain point he became too careless. But this served him as a piece of lesson, says Jeff Garrett, former president of the US Professional Numismatists Guild.
He describes what changed in his view on security the morning the operator of his security firm called him. Some advice seems to be basic: don’t spread the news you collect valuable coins, store your coins in a safe rather than in show cases and so on. However, hearing it after a personal experience this might remember you that most people don’t observe simple rules.
And, last but not least, be most carefully with your insurance contract. Jeff Garret concludes: ‘Better to be safe than sorry!’
